Ethan Scarle went to meeting of the Northeast's Public Safety Committee, at the King Neighborhood Facility, where people from the neighborhoods, from the police, and from other public service areas meet once a month to work on safety issues facing North and Northeast Portland. Issues range from last Sunday's "Take back the Parks" event, to thefts of catalytic converters from automobiles, to sponsoring fitness walks, to street lighting problems, and special events in Portland's parks and streets. One regular service is an outreach program in which volunteers go door to door to bring residents community service information, and, in some cases, information from local sponsoring businesses.
