In light of the recent attacks in Pakistan, we also wanted to share a previous story about flood relief efforts from Karachi to Illinois:
Pakistan was afflicted by severe during the month of August as rains kept coming through the last month. Nearly seventeen hundred people have died and over twenty million people have been afflicted. According to a report from National Public Radio, donations and funding for flood victim relief has been slow while many victims still do not have homes and basic necessities.
Rajesh Karmani, President of the Pakistani Graduate Students Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, recently visited a relief camp in his hometown of Karachi.
KBOO’s Sarika Mehta spoke with Mr. Karmani about his visit and his findings. The Pakistani Graduate Student Association also raised seventy-five thousand dollars during the first week of the flood, for Islamic Relief USA for as part of the short-term solution. They are actively working on a long-term rehabilitation plan for victims of the disaster.
