When the host of Self Help Radio was a child, he somehow came to believe that railroad tracks were the borders of cities. It seemed logical to him that a city would be encircled with railroad tracks. As such, whenever he was in a car, & the car went over railroad tracks, he would think, "I'm in another city!"
One day, he said it out loud, & his caring family, in the car with him, asked him what he meant. He explained it, & in that kind way a loving family will gently correct a child who has misunderstood, they said to him, "That's not true, dumbass." & he learned not to talk about the things he thought about with his family ever.
Perhaps that's where his radio show about borders was first conceived, but howsoever it happened, it was this week's episode Self Help Radio. In addition to the songs listed below, you'll also hear an interview with an actual border guard; with a man who is suing the bookstore Borders; & with a geographer who specializes in solving border issues. As well, the show's resident cinephile Chuck comes on to talk about films that feature borders. The show is thus delineated much as a map might be.
Please be kind to children & their wayward notions! Otherwise they might become disc jockeys!
