Please join us for Transpositive on KBOO Community Radio on Tuesday, October 5th as we talk with Emet Marwell of Athlete Ally about sports, athletics and transgender rights. Marwell is a transgender activist, former field hockey player, and Policy & Programs Manager at Athlete Ally, an organization that advocates for transgender athletes and transgender youth participation in sports.
In 2021, 36 states had enacted or were considering legislation limiting the rights of transgender kids to participate in sports and athletic programs in their schools. According to the Center for American Progress, "Opponents of LGBTQ equality have mobilized to stoke transphobia and legislate anti-trans policies by focusing on the participation of transgender youth in school athletic programs. During a pandemic and economic crisis that should demand policymakers’ full attention and government response, many anti-LGBTQ legislators are instead using their time and resources to advocate for bills that would ban transgender students from playing sports."
