Reginald Blanton is scheduled to be executed just before midnight on Tuesday night, October 27th. Reginald’s case, like many other Texas death row cases, is riddled with injustices. He was convicted based on coerced testimony with no physical evidence; his court appointed attorney did not provide adequate defense; he was convicted by an all-white jury and subjected to a jury shuffle which purposefully excluded African-American jurors. KBOO aired a segment of a speech by Reginald's mother, pleading for people to help save his life.
His mother urged listeners to call the Texas Governor at 512-463-1782 and the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles (512) 406-5852, to tell them to grant Reginald Blanton clemency.

Texas and the Death Penalty
Texas will always be a RedNeck ignorant blood thirsty bastion, I just hope that all those supporting the death penalty will someday have a loved one or maybe even themselves waiting for the "NEEDLE"
death penalty
The man and women who kill people with out the fear of commiting such acts, you should also stand up as men and women without the fear of faceing death and let these people who love to take life have their way. Be strong men and women and show mankind that you do no the difference between right and wrong and have the courage to except the truth and be held accountable, because it is the right thing to do for you and your families.
six degrees of separation
The death penalty has always really troubled me. Even Dante said that crimes of passion, including murder, were more forgivable than the more pre-meditated crime of betraying loved ones. Dante placed those who betrayed loved ones at the very center of hell. The relationship between the state and the people isn't usually thought of as a relationship between "loved ones" as I mentioned above. But the state certainly derives it's rights and authority ONLY from laws rooted in love. Do the state representatives really love the people who created the state? Well, I think we have the right to assume so....all state employees work for the state, for the people, by choice. They love our tax dollars, so I would expect them to show love in return.... So to my way of thinking.....capital punishment is such a betrayal of what's supposed to be a relationship built of the highest principles. This is why it's so disturbing to me---when the state murders, it's quite intentional and pre-meditated. The only thing which will stop them is action, as the poster said. And by the same token, we all in the progressive movement and at KBOO need not betray each other. I do remember quite well that recently KBOO folk were so busy sorting out their own corruptions/betrayals.....that no one had time to comment on the fact that Reginald Blanton was about to be--and was--executed by the state of Texas. How the *%$# are we supposed to help others if we're so screwed up ourselves?Bottom line: "Just don't do it." Don't ever betray your friends and human family; it's just wrong. We're separated by Reginald Blanton by only six degrees of separation, and we're only as strong as our weakest link......Solidarity,Yvette
