Wondering what to do with all those leaves? For answers, we offer "There Must Be 50 Ways to Love Your Leaves" (and our apologies to Paul Simon). Plus the beautiful persimmon tree and fruit.

Due to technical reasons, we we're able to present our recorded November show. So we recorded it again for this month, covering about the same material. Have a good solstice, dear listerners!

Tis the season of persimmon and host Glen Andresen and guest Jim Gilbert discuss this beautiful tree and fruit. And, since this is fall and there are a lot of leaves to be had, Glen recites his "There Must Be 50 Ways to Love Your Leaves," along with a plug for making and using leaf mold. Plus Jim has Part 2 in his series of  monthly segments explaining the history and virtues of Oregon's land use planning laws. We also have a discussion about high-quality hand pruners, something to think about for the gardener in your life during this gift-giving season.

As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (lichen, although it's not a plant!). And a reminder, the Garden Stumper is back! The winner gets a free sharpening of a hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland! Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary terms are "senescence" and "abscission." And, of course, what's annoying Glen this month.

Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, or the answer to the Garden Stumper, you can email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show!

The Dirtbag... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
