Even though there are no large fires burning close to Portland this summer, you can still smell the smoke from all the megafires burning from British Columbia to Northern California. This is the new reality we are facing, a confluence of climate chaos, exacerbated by logging old growth forest which is exacerbating larger and more frequent wildfires.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk again with Southern Oregon scientist Dominick Della Sala with Wild Heritage in Talent, Oregon about the importance of protecting mature and old growth forests from clearcutting, as these trees play a key role in sequestering and storing massive amounts of carbon, thus serving as a vital natural climate solution.
