Professor Sir John Strang, MD, is a clinical academic and one of the world’s leading addictions researchers. He was Principal Investigator in the Randomised Injectable Opiate Treatment Trial in the UK, which compared the safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of prescribing injectable diacetylmorphine, which is medicinal heroin, versus oral methadone for people addicted to heroin who failed to benefit from standard treatment. Sir John was one of the keynote speakers at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre’s 2024 Research Symposium, which was held recently online and in-person at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
