The UK-based bioenergy company Drax is coming to the West Coast. Drax, which faces accusations of misleading regulators by denying that they are sourcing wood pellets from old-growth forests, is now partnering with rural county supervisors in California to build massive wood pellet plants in two counties in Northern California, as well as in Longview and Hoquiam, Washington. However, dozens of environmental advocacy groups are fighting back, accusing Drax of deceptive practices and greenwashing.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Gary Hughes, Americas Program Coordinator for the international organization BioFuelwatch, about the dangers that wood biomass production pose to our forests, communities and the climate.
