"Word Is Out: Stories of Some of Our Lives" is a 1977 documentary film produced by Peter Adair and directed by Nancy Adair, Andrew Brown, Lucy Massie Phenix, Rob Epstein, Peter Adair and Veronica Selver. The film is notable for being one of the first to openly address the lives and stories of gay individuals in the United States. It features interviews with 26 people from various backgrounds, exploring their personal experiences with sexuality, coming out, and their struggles and triumphs in a society that was often hostile to LGBTQ+ individuals.

The film's structure is unique in that it allows the subjects to speak for themselves in a straightforward, candid manner, offering a powerful insight into the lives of gay men and women during a time when their stories were rarely represented in mainstream media.

"Word Is Out" is considered an important historical and cultural document that helped pave the way for greater visibility and acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals in film and society at large. It played a significant role in the gay rights movement by giving a voice to those who had been marginalized or silenced.
