"The Flatlanders" Featured On "Swing & Country"

Forty years ago, three guys sharing a house together in Lubbock Texas formed a band and recorded some songs. They stuck together for a couple of years but nobody was really listening or interested in giving them a record deal. They disbanded in1973, went their seperate ways and all ended up having successful solo careers. Interest in those recorded tracks from 1972 was aroused and as a result Rounder Records produced an album entitled "More A Legend Than A Band" in 1990. The Flatlanders comprised of singer-songwriters Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock reunited in 1997 to co-write and sing "South Wind of Summer" for the soundtrack of Robert Redford's movie "The Horse Whisperer". They had such a great time that since 2002 they have released three albums, two of which the majority of the songs were co-written by the trio. Six of The Flatlanders songs will be featured on Saturday's program.

The Flatlanders will be appearing live in Portland on Wednesday, October 10th at 8:00 PM at the Aladdin Theater. Listen to "Swing & Country" live or in our archives to find out how you might win a pair of tickets to see this legendary band.
