Voter ID laws are ensuring that only the "right" people get to vote.
This past summer, the Supreme Court struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act -- and shortly thereafter, new discriminatory "voter ID" laws began to spring up, mostly in the Old South. Now in Texas, a new voter ID law has disenfranchised thousands of women for the crime of having taken a married name. Voter ID, it seems, is the latest in a long line of efforts to ensure that only the "right" people get to vote.
