Tonight we celebrate the youth in our community, especially those working to make a difference in the lives of others.
Our guests include youth & staff from The Living Room, a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth (and their allies) ages 14-20 in Clackamas County. We'll discuss what they've been up to, including ramping up for Pride with their annual Pride BBQ on Fri June 13 from 4-8pm at Clackamette Park. For more information and their full calendar of events, check out their website.
We also welcome youth organizers from the Oregon Queer Youth Summit. The Oregon Queer Youth Summit (OQYS) is a free day-long conference held by and for queer & trans-identified youth and their allies ages 24 and younger. It includes educational and recreational workshops, informational tables hosted by community organizations, and more. Youth volunteers make all the decisions and every workshop is facilitated by a young person. OQYS is happening June 21, 2014 at the Metropolitan Learning Center (school in NW PDX).
Youth organizers from Queer Intersections Portland join us in studio as well. QI Portland advocates for, promotes the visibility of, and works to build stronger communities for LGBTQ youth & young adults with intersecting marginalized identities. Their next event is The Portland T - Pride Edition on Thursday June 5 from 4 to 6pm at Matt Dishman Community Center. Their one-year anniversary is on June 20th.
