Host Ken Jones talks with Bianca Bosker, author of the new book Cork Dork: A Wine-Fueled Adventure Among the Obsessive Sommeliers, Big Bottle Hunters, and Rogue Scientists Who Taught Me to Live for Taste.

Cork Dork tells the story of Bianca’s quest to become a Certified Sommelier, which requires an expertise in the theory of wine, the proper way of serving it, and the somewhat supernatural ability to identify individual bottles of wine through blind tasting. Not an easy task for even the most experienced wine connoisseur. Still, Bianca gives herself the challenge of going from “civilian” to “cork dork” in just a year.

As a journalist, Bianca has written about food, wine, architecture, and technology for The New Yorker online, The Atlantic, The New York Times Style Magazine, Food & Wine, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and The New Republic. She also served as executive tech editor of The Huffington Post.

Bianca’s a native Oregonian, born and raised in Portland, who now lives in New York City. She'll be appearing at Powell's City of Books on Friday, March 31st at 7:30pm, in conversation with Portland Monthly food editor Karen Brooks.
