Tonight on A Different Nature we explore the fascinating sounds of SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE.
From their bandcamp page:
Since 2001, Spires That in the Sunset Rise have been unsettling and thrilling audiences with their brand of sonic alchemy. Described by Jack Rose as a “female Sun City Girls,” they contributed a different slant to the New Folk movement by incorporating various avant-garde and world music influences into their sound. They have been compared to artists ranging from the Raincoats to Meredith Monk to Comus to Harry Partch.
Tonight we follow chronologically the progression of STITSR's music, from the early albums of avant-garde-influenced psych-folk as a three or four peice, to more recent works that go deeper into new music and improvisation, after STITSR became a duo in 2010. And we'll take detours into solo projects by Spires two members, Kathleen Baird and Taralie Peterson.
