In the face of deep cuts to health care programs, the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center has expanded to open a new clinic in Hillsboro, Oregon, with community driven, integrated services focusing on OB care, family planning and general women’s wellness. Since it’s founding 41 years ago, the clinic has grown from one grass roots clinic into a full service health care home serving several counties including Washington and Yamhill while also serving several schools. As KBOO reported two years ago, Washington County has shut down all of its public health clinics, which had been the main source of health care for farm workers and other migrant laborers.
KBOO’s Zelos Marchandt spoke with Monica Acre the OB Provider and Lead Clinician for the new clinic to find out more.
