Please join us this week on Transpositive as we talk with Rose and with collective member Nicolette about the intersection of Nuerodivergency and Gender Non Binary Identities. According to wikipedia, "Neurodiversity is an approach to learning and differing ability that argues diverse neurological conditions are result of normal variations in the human genome, originating in the late 1990s as a challenge to prevailing views of neurological diversity as inherently pathological, instead asserting that neurological differences should be recognized and respected as a social category on a par with gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability status."
Gender Non-Binary describes any gender identity which does not fit the male and female binary. Those with non-binary genders can feel that they have an androgynous (both masculine and feminine) gender identity, such as androgyne, have an identity between male and female, such as intergender, have a neutral or unrecognized gender identity, such as agender, neutrois, or most xenogender, have multiple gender identities, such as bigender or pangender, have a gender identity which varies over time, known as genderfluid.
They may also have a weak or partial connection to a gender identity, known as demigender or are intersex and identify as intersex, know as amalgagender, they may have a culturally specific gender identity which exists only within their or their ancestor's culture. Finally Non-binary people may also identify as transgender and/or transsexual. The label genderqueer has a lot of overlap with non-binary. Non-binary is often seen as the preferred term, as "queer" may be used as a transphobic insult.
Transpositive is a program exploring the vibrant and diverse community in Portland that identify as Transgender, Two Spirit, Non Binary and Gender Non-Conforming Community. Transpositive tries to connect listeners with the ongoing activist, arts, culture, and dialogue happening in Portland and beyond. Transpositive PDX is especially concerned about the underrepresented voices of Trans People of Color, Homeless, Youth, and the most vulnerable in our communities.
