Starting today, Barack Obama will receive highly classified briefings from top intelligence officials.
But the bigger focus is still on who he'll choose to fill positions in his administration.
It's not clear if Illinois Representative Rahm Emanuel will accept Obama's offer to be his White House chief of staff.
Several Democrats confirmed that Emanuel has been offered the job.
Emanuel has become one of the leaders in the House since coming to office six years ago.
Ali Abunimah of the ElectronicIntifada.org website says the selection of Emanuel may be to appease the pro-Israel lobby.
