Please join us this week on Transpositive PDX as we speak with Jules Garza of the Portland Women's March about the need to prioritize the voices of women of color and the voices of the trans community as part of this year's Women's March.  The March, which will take place March 3rd in Portland went through an intense community vetting process this year.  Originally scheduled during the week of MLK memorial activities in January, leaders of the women's march received feedback from the community of the need for white people to step back and turn out to support people of color during the MLK weekend.  The Women's March heard the feedback and rescheduled the event for March 3 during Women's Month.  We will talk with one of the principal organizers of the march this year about the need to prioritize the voices of women of color and trans voices in the March this year.

Dr Angela Towne is a graduate of Pacific University and is a PhD Sexologist. She is doing a research project on transgender sexual response and function as well as subjective experience of sexual function.  She will be joining us on the show to discuss a long term study she is working on regarding transgender sexual response and fuction.  She is calling for participants in her project.  Angela is trans and queer friendly and a strong ally of the community.

Transgender rights are under attack around the globe.  In January, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling which effectively lent support to the directive of the administration of Donald Trump to legally discriminate against Transgender Military Service Members both active duty and persons seeking to enlist.  In addition to making Transgender people second class citizens it sends a message to currently serving military personnell that it is legal and acceptable to discriminate against people fighting to defend their country.  In Japan legislation was recently passed requiring Transgender people to be medically sterilized in order to legally transition and in India laws were passed restricting the traditional rights of Transgender people to seek alms and gather in some public spaces.  We will discuss the current spate of anti-Transgender laws internationally with the Collective.
