With temperatures on the rise again after last week’s cold spell, warming shelters that were opened for the homeless in Portland have been closed.
But the winter is far from over, and advocates for the homeless warn that if nothing is done, people are sure to die on the streets this winter.
No local news outlets reported any deaths from the last week of bone-chilling cold, but KBOO News got a call from a listener in northeast Portland who reports that a homeless man in her neighborhood did indeed die of the cold early last week.
