Larry Bowlden reviews the novel The Pull of the Stars by Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue. In Dublin, 1918, a nurse finds herself in charge of a small, makeshift ward of pregnant women who have contracted the flu. Her work is complicated by having to negotiate rampant sexism within the medical profession.
