On Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. Joseph Gallivan interviews Melissa Moline and Leah Kohlenberg, the curators of getting Gallery PDX, an Airbnb fourplex in North Portland where the art on the walls is for sale. Moline is an architect and jeweler and Kohlenberg is a painter and curator. Both are active in Portland Open Studios as well as running their own studio businesses.
FROM THE PRESS RELEASE
Even before COVID-19 made it impossible to hold art festivals and traditional gallery shows, Moline and Kohlenberg recognized that many artists were struggling to get their work seen; while potential buyers were unsure how to connect with local artists. New ways of viewing and experiencing art were needed – particularly after the pandemic hit.
Enter the Get Gallery Art Hotel, in Northeast Portland. Designed at Allusa Architecture by Melissa Moline and Bob Schatz, the walls in this 6-unit building of short-term rental apartments were SCREAMING for art. And so the creation of a live-in art gallery – which you can view by the hour, the event, or the evening – was born.
