On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 11.30am Joseph Gallivan interviews painter Mark Andres about his show “Saudade” [ pronounced sau-DA-ji ] which is on now at Augen Gallery through May 27. Andres talks about his use of shadow and silhouette, how he has partly changed his mind about using photography to make paintings, and saudade, the Brazilian word for a pleasant melancholy for lost things, particularly as it relates to the Portland art world.
